We actually travelled past Dalat, but decided after talking to someone else travelling to go back and it was the best decision we could have made. Dalat is different from any of Vietnam that we had seen before and is also known as ‘Little Paris’. We decided to get a easy rider tour with Mr Young (NHON) Tel. 0913. 737 001 youngtours@hotmail.com.

Mr Young’s tour really was worth the $25 they took us off the beaten track to visit some of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Mr Young and his colleague took us on the back of their motorbikes to see Dalat. At first I was worried I would fall off but it was actually absolutely fine and you are given helmets. We went to see how rice noodles were made, to passion fruit farms, to see how silk is made from Silk Worm to gorgeous scarf; see how coffee is made and get the chance to try different types including Weasel Sour Coffee (Which in effect is Weasel Poo). This is the most premium coffee in Vietnam.

They also take you to the Crazy House which is architectural genius. With the ladders going over the roof which you can climb and visit secret little rooms. Crazy House is health and safety gone mad but such an awesome place.

On the tour we were taken to a little restaurant which appeared to be in someones living room where we had rice noodles which only cost 66p. Elephant Waterfalls was part of the tour which makes Mui Ne’s Fairy Springs look pathetic there is also a chance to climb underneath the waterfall behind the waterfall. Right next to elephant waterfalls is a Buddhist Temple and gardens which we visited. We also went to see where all the flowers grow.

Go on a horse and carriage ride – Mekong Delta

The Mekong Delta has become very touristy but nonetheless is a great place to visit, there is a horse and carriage ride to take guests on a little tour which is really good fun. I do feel for the horses working in the sun mind.

Go to the War Remnants Museum

Make sure you visit the War Remnants Museum to understand the history of the Vietnamese war, its a dark place to be but will help you understand the Vietnamese culture further and understand the horrors of what the people had to go through.

The museum has military equipment, helicopters, fighter jets, unexploded bombs, ‘tiger cages’ where the South Vietnamese government kept political prisoners, photography which is extremely graphic covering effects of Agent Orange, massacres, chemical sprays, bomb damage, preserved human fetuses which were deformed to exposure to Agent Orange.

This museum is not for the faint hearted but I think it is important everyone shows respect to the Vietnamese Culture and visits the musuem.

Go to Quan Chay (Vegan Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City)

One of my favourite restaurants in Vietnam was a Vegan Restaurant; which is strange as I can’t say I have ever wanted to eat vegan food but we went to a little restaurant called Quan Chay Halo and had the most beautiful pineapple fried rice. The service was amazing, the presentation and taste of the food was amazing. The restaurant its self is basic but everything else is really good, the locals love this place.

Stay at The New Pacific Hotel – Ho Chi Minh City

ho chi ho chic ma

The New Pacific Hotel was the first hotel we stayed at in Vietnam. This was probably one of the most luxurious hotels we stayed in whilst in Asia. The hotel had a rooftop pool which we could bribe the staff by paying them about £3 a night to keep the pool open until the early hours of the morning. The restaurant is on the top floor, so you can eat breakfast with incredible views. I would suggest avoiding the massage as people on our trip opted for this and just got battered with the option of a happy ending, one guy decided this was a good idea, little did he realise he’d regret that decision and have his penis broken. The hotel is absolutely beautiful with ornate mahogany style furniture however the staff are not as friendly as most places in Vietnam. The hotel was not very busy so we had a whole floor to ourselves, (we went on a university trip with about 20 people).  This hotel usually costs £58 a night, but have a look for online deals and get the hotel stay for around £35 a night.

Stay at the Mayflower Hotel Ho Chi Minh

This hotel was one of my favourites from Vietnam, and was great value for money. A night here usually costs £41, but they always seem to have deals, so have a look of Trip Advisor for the best prices. The staff were friendly and the hotel was really nicely decorated. The room included flat screen TV, fridge, balcony and a jacuzzi bath. This place is perfect for a little bit of luxury while your travelling.

Boat down Mekong Delta River

ho ch

Of course this must be complete with the Vietnamese Conical Hat. Most of the Mekong Delta is very touristy, but you can’t go to Vietnam without canoeing down the Mekong Delta in a Conical Hat.
